January Update

Okay, I said in my last post that I'd update on how things have been going since getting back up and running in January, so I'll post the weekly breakdown of hands played and results at the bottom of this post. I'd like to do a weekly rundown on Mondays, so from here on out, that's what I'll do. Also, I'll post the details of the top 5 winners and losers of the week with any necessary analysis, as well as some of the key points I want to work on in the upcoming week. Hopefully this will keep me thinking about what I've been doing at the tables and where I need to improve (as always, any insight via comments is greatly appreciated).

Things I need more work/focus on:
1. Observing bet patterns and working that into villain's range
2. Utilizing all PAHud stats available (<3 AP data-mining)
3. Having a plan of attack for a hand from the very beginning

Things I'm improving on (in my opinion):
1. Extracting value via thin value bets
2. Manipulating pot sizes (Pot Control / Inducing All-Ins)
3. Trusting my reads

don't call it a comeback...

... I been here for years (or something like that, right LL?). Unfortunately, I haven't been blogging, or playing for that matter, nearly enough for my liking. The back half of 2007 was filled with an insane amount of stress at work, which may or may not have lead to the reduced number of hands put in and subsequent failed attempt to break into 100nl. My bankroll ended up taking a pretty decent hit and I lacked all motivation to play. The one good thing, however, is that during that time period I continued to watch the CR videos, stay up-to-date on member blogs that I found important (see right), and talk through the game with malfaire. Kudos to me, right? Fail!

Anyway, fast forward to January 2008. Finally decided that I don't enjoy work nearly enough, and that poker is one viable option to open doors into other lifestyle realms -- or at least work in conjunction to such an end state. However, in order to do this I need to buckle down and start improving my play. I've always been a small winning player, and that's what I'll always be if I don't start taking advantage of all the resources available to me. I'm not content with where I'm at as a poker player, and now's the time to do something about it -- make great strides forward or quit, and I'm not a quitter. More to come regarding Jan 1st - Present adventures, but for now I'll sign off by quoting the Governator...

"I'm back."
